COVID-19 Athletics update:

The guidelines for athletic conditioning and seasons have changed again. This means all season 1 purple, red, and orange tier sports are a go.

Effective as of March 3, 2021;

  • A team is now considered a cohort.
  • The County recommends that "large" teams limit mixing by creating smaller stable cohorts.
  • Testing for sports is not required as our number is below 7
  • Shared equipment ok for no more than 4 athletes to 1 piece of equipment (proper disinfecting guidelines - athletic trainers can assist)
  • Teams/cohorts must maintain 6 feet of space at all times, no hitting yet in football once in the red tier, we can hit.
  • Weight rooms and gyms are now open as we are officially in the RED tier.
  • Practice length for purple, red, and orange tier sports can now align with NCS rules of 18 hours per week. These time constraints are only for sports in season.  Other sports must adhere to the 45 minute time window. (On-campus single-use restroom must be open for extended length practices)

Athletic Department Mission

It is the John F. Kennedy Athletic Department’s mission to be determined to instill strong academic values in all of our student athletes while providing a safe and challenging athletic experience.  We understand the diversity in schools, and will ensure that student-athletes develop not only internally as a better citizen, but also externally by developing the required athletic skills for team and personal success.

John F. Kennedy High School athletics compete within the Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) which is a part of the North Coast Section(NCS). All students participating in school sports must meet GPA requirements (see eligibility). Our school has been achieving amazing accomplishments in the past couple of years.  In 2018-2019 school year, 10 of our sports programs qualified for North Coast Section Playoffs.  Our badminton program won 1st place in NCS Division 2.  We had student athletes compete in the state finals for track.  We also sent 7 student- athletes on to play at the next level in college.
